“IX’s Diamond Lean-to” is a collection of 22 songs written between 2005 and 2010. Part I (“Songs Off the Mat”) is more inwardly focused in a “dharma diary” sort of way while Part II (“Love & Politics”) is more externally focused (and perhaps a bit edgier, though that’s like calling chamomile edgy…). This distinction is loose and a number of the songs could have landed in either camp…
I feel compelled to add that these are simple and humble offerings– just me and my guitar, both of which are decidedly works in progress(!). Nevertheless I stand by the songs themselves as they are both window and scribe to my own unique (and universal?) journey.
“It doesn’t take long to know that Ms. Foster had a lot to say and a pretty good voice for saying it. Highly recommended.” –jwhit
“Rebecca Foster’s voice has a striking resonance as she sings beautiful and inspiring lyrics. “Kiss the Ground” is stunning!” — DarcySkye
“An artist with a great voice and great lyrics accompanied by solid guitar playing.” — cyberehrlich
You can listen to (and buy!) songs from both albums as well as my first effort, “Canciones en Ingles,” from Nimbit. Or you can visit “my store” on Facebook.
“IX’s Diamond Lean-to” is in loving memory of Dan Greer who passed away in 2008. Dan was an awesome blues singer who sang everything as if it were his last song. He also rode his motorcycle (with only one real leg) back and forth across the USA twice, had a gift for beautifully precise pencil drawings, and was widely known for his angry doomsday rants. He wasn’t always easy to be with, but he was a fierce and mighty and beloved soul. We miss you Danny!
(The complete Dan Greer Trilogy includes– in addition to “Danny’s Lament” and “Danny’s Redemption” which are both on “Love & Politics”– a song about Dan & his black lab (“Danny’s Song”) which can be found on “Canciones en Ingles” from 2005.)
I also offer a deep bow of appreciation to Joe for inspiration (both light and dark!) and for supporting me a thousand ways in this project. Te oma te oma te oma.
PLEASE NOTE: All proceeds go to support the Yogi-Inmate Collaborative, which offers yoga, meditation and JourneyDance to inmates in RI prisons. If you feel moved to donate more than the price of the album or song, consider sponsoring a yogi-inmate. Or read my Yogi-Inmate blog offering reflections on the practice of yoga in prison. –THANK YOU!!
ps. I once got a teabag with the following quote from Voltaire: “Anything too stupid to be said is sung.” Oh well…
